5th Annual Hate Bias Response Symposium

Join us for a two-day symposium on hate/bias prevention, response, and healing, built around a social justice framework, in an effort to facilitate and sustain educational/organizational systems that are more safe, equitable, and just.nThe event will be held on December 3 & 4 at UW-La Crosse in the Student Union. This year’s theme is Harnessing Radical Hope for Collective Action inspired by Carolina DeRobertis’s book Radical Hope: Letters of Love and Dissent in Dangerous Times.nThe objectives of the symposium:nnExplore trends and best practices for hate/bias prevention, response, and healing centered engagementnGrapple with current issues, legal complexities, and institutional barriers regarding hate/bias incidents & crimesnProvide support, resources, and ideas for schools and organizations working toward the establishment or sustainment of anti-hate/bias effortsnExamine institutional accountability, particularly from a counter-narrative lens, for hate/bias prevention and responsenDisrupt institutional systems, climates, and cultures that support any manifestation of hate/biasnEstablish a network of hate/bias preventers, responders, and healers throughout higher education and beyondnnThe primary audience for this symposium is teams or individuals working directly on hate/bias education, prevention, response, and healing within a higher education setting, which typically includes Chief Diversity Officers, Affirmative Action Directors, Counseling staff, LGBT directors, Multicultural Directors, Campus Climate Coordinators, Residence Life stakeholders, Violence Prevention Specialists, University Police, and student activists.nThis symposium will also benefit higher education faculty/staff/administrators who understand this work is bigger than one person or any team, anti-racist and social justice-centered K-12 educators, businesses/organizations who care about people, and those who want to do their part to advance inclusivity, equity, and justice within our collective spheres of influence.nFind more information and registration information at https://www.uwlax.edu/ex/hate-bias/.nSpace is limited and early bird registration ends on November 8th.nTickets: https://www.uwlax.edu/ex/hate-bias/register/.
