The Hidden History of Racial Disparities in La Crosse and Wisconsin

October 14, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

How did Wisconsin go from being the leading state in protecting fugitive slaves pre-Civil War to being one of most hazardous places in which to raise a black child today?nHow did we get here – and what can we do to change the racial disparities that impede the well-being of Wisconsin’s African American citizens?nReggie Jackson, the Head Griot (oral historian) of America’s Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee, helps audiences explore these questions. He presents a fascinating look at the national, state and local policies and customs that have led to current conditions. A lively and extended Q & A with the audience follows his presentations, which have been packing houses around the state.nThe English Lutheran Church, La Crosse County, B.L.A.C.K.(Black Leaders Acquiring Collective Knowledge), Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of La Crosse, the Compassionate Community Faith Alliance, and the African American Mutual Assistance Network (AAMAN) invite you to join us for a special conversation on racial disparities and solutions that are relevant to our very own community. All are welcome to this non-partisan and collaborative event!nTickets: http://www.interfaithleaders.org/upcoming-events.html.
