The Hidden History of Racial Disparity in La Crosse and Wisconsin

October 14, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Compassionate Community Faith Alliance, African American Mutual Assistance Network, English Lutheran Church, La Crosse County, B.L.A.C.K., and Universalist Unitarians invite you to join us for a special conversation on racial disparities and solutions that are relevant to our very own community. All are welcome to this non-partisan and collaborative event!n How did Wisconsin go from being the leading state in protecting fugitive slaves pre-Civil War to being one of most hazardous places in which to raise a black child today?n How did we get here – and what can we do to change the racial disparities that impede the well-being of Wisconsin’s African American citizens?n Reggie Jackson, the oral historian of America’s Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee, helps audiences explore these questions. He presents a fascinating look at the national, state and local policies and customs that have led to current conditions. A lively and extended Q & A with the audience follows his presentations, which have been packing houses around the state.
